Headshot of Mark Adamo

In the 2019-20 season, ACO’s Commission Club will support Mark Adamo as he creates Last Year, a new cello concerto for cello and string orchestra featuring Jeffrey Zeigler, which ACO will perform on April 2, 2020 at Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall. The new work explores the idea of an apocalyptic Quattro Stagioni. Instead of the four seasons as depicted by Vivaldi, Adamo uses four extreme landscapes and brings the deeper-voiced cello as a bearer of this tale.

Composer Ethan Iverson (center) with Commission Club Members at the April 6, 2018 Premiere of his work “Concert to Scale” at Carnegie Hall.

“My husband and I received a commission membership to the ACO as a wedding gift, and it has proven among the most memorable experiences of 2018. While hearing Ethan’s new piece in Carnegie Hall was a treat, we found the salon leading up to the event – an intimate occasion in the homes of generous patrons – to be the most distinctive of our experiences with ACO. Hearing Ethan share reflections on the creative process in an informal setting made the final performance come alive in ways simply attending a performance at a concert hall never would. The personal and creative touches of the ACO team made us feel part of a community of artists, and tremendously proud to be contributing to the thriving cultural hub of New York.”
