Elizabeth Bates

Soprano Elizabeth Bates is increasingly in demand as a performer of both early and new music. Based in New York City since 2011, she began her career singing as a soprano with the Schola Cantorum of the Church of Saint Agnes. Elizabeth is now a regular soprano with the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, appearing as a soloist in the Bach at One series, Concerts at One, and for liturgical events. She has also appeared with the American Classical Orchestra, Downtown Voices, Pro Arte Singers of New Canaan, CT, and Charis Chamber Voices of Bedford, NY. Solo performances include Mozart’s Requiem with the Church of Saint Agnes and Fauré’s Requiem with Trinity Wall Street. She has appeared on some of the world’s most recognized stages, including Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall, Notre Dame de Paris, St. Paul’s Cathedral, London, and Brooklyn’s National Sawdust. Her 2016-2017 season performances include tours of both Handel’s Messiah and Bach’s Mass in B minor to Montreal and California. She will join 100 musicians from the Wordless Music Orchestra to perform the live music accompaniment to Terrance Malick’s film The Tree of Life. She will also appear with the ensemble The Thirteen in Washington, D.C. Her March 2017 performance of Steve Reich’s Tehillim with the American Composers Orchestra will mark her Carnegie Hall debut. Elizabeth holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree in French from Middlebury College. She has taught and tutored students in French, Spanish and Italian.
