Director of Development

American Composers Orchestra (ACO) seeks a Director of Development. This is a full-time position working in our midtown Manhattan office.

Duties: The Director of Development is the senior level fundraising and development position within the organization. Plans, manages and implements all fundraising strategy, goals and activities for all programs and campaigns. Helps to identify new major sources of support, and cultivates existing relationships. Researches, conceptualizes and writes all foundation and government proposals and corporate sponsorship requests, monitoring and fulfilling all reporting requirements. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and insures acknowledgement of individual contributions and gifts. Plans cultivation events, benefits, and other special events. Coordinates and participates in creation and execution of long-term strategic and endowment planning initiatives. Works closely with the President & CEO, and with the Development, Nominating and Benefit committees of the Board. Serves as a spokesperson and advocate for the organization with donors and within the fundraising community. The Director of Development oversees a part-time development assistant.

Qualifications: The qualified candidate will have excellent writing and verbal communication skills, and a minimum of four years successful fundraising experience. A strong sense of initiative and self-sufficiency, abundant energy, ability to manage multiple deadlines, and the flexibility to respond quickly and imaginatively to a variety of challenges. Strong ability to work collaboratively with board and staff. Dedication, creativity and an entrepreneurial spirit required. A record of effective experience working with non-profit boards strongly preferred. Applicant must embrace and thrive in an intensive small office environment. Strong major donor and capital campaign experience, and knowledge of concert music or performing arts a plus.
